Planning a K-pop concert trip to Seoul — the order to book things in
The ticket is the part everyone stresses about, but it's the last domino, not the first. Here's the booking order that keeps a Seoul concert trip from unraveling.
Most first Seoul trips go wrong in the same way: the ticket gets bought, then everything else gets crammed around it in a panic. The fix is boring but it works — decide the order you lock things in, and follow it. The concert is the anchor, but it is not the first thing you book.
The order to book things in
| Step | What | When | Why this order |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The ticket | As announced | Everything downstream depends on the date and venue |
| 2 | Flights | Right after the ticket clears | Dates are now fixed; prices only rise |
| 3 | A hotel near a subway line | Same week | Line matters more than distance to the venue |
| 4 | Airport-to-city plan | A few weeks out | Cheap and easy once you know your base |
| 5 | The day-of route to the venue | The week before | Short and specific — see below |
The two mistakes that cost the most are booking flights before the ticket is confirmed, and picking a hotel by distance to the venue instead of by subway access. You only go to the venue once or twice; you use the subway every day.
Getting from Incheon to the city
Do not overthink the airport. The AREX train and the airport buses both work, and the right choice depends on your bags and your base, not on the concert. The full breakdown — including the specific route to KSPO Dome, the most common venue — is in ICN to KSPO Dome routing.
Where to stay
Pick a neighborhood on a subway line that reaches your venue with at most one transfer. Hongdae, Myeongdong, and the areas around major lines all work. Proximity to the venue is a trap: post-show, tens of thousands of people leave at once, and a nearby hotel does not help you beat that crowd — a good subway line does.
The day around the show
Concert day is not just the concert. There is a merch line, a wait, the show, and a very slow exit. Two links cover the specifics: what to eat near the venue in food near KSPO Dome, and — for the actual doors, lightstick, and timeline — the full in-venue playbook.
Merch and the rest of the trip
Give yourself a non-concert fan day. Hongdae has a walkable cluster of official and unofficial shops, mapped in the Hongdae merch walking map. If you are visiting in summer, the festival season can add a second event to the trip — see the Korea summer festival calendar.
