Two things ride on where an international fan pre-orders a K-pop album, and both are easy to get wrong: which exclusive POB photocard you receive, and whether your order counts toward the group's first-week sales. Buy from the wrong place and you can miss both.

The pattern: each store's POB is different, so pick the store by the POB you want and by whether it ships to your country with a payment method you can use.
Does it count toward first-week (초동)?
This is the part people miss. For a purchase to feed the Hanteo first-week count, it generally has to go through a Hanteo-family retailer. Most of the big K-pop-specialist stores (Ktown4u, Soundwave, Music Korea, etc.) are — but a random third-party marketplace listing may not be. If making the group's first-week number matters to you, buy from a recognized K-pop retailer, not an anonymous reseller.
The shipping reality
- Shipping is charged separately and varies a lot by store and destination — it can rival the album price for a single copy, which is why group orders (GOs) exist.
- Group orders run by trusted fan accounts split shipping and sometimes secure a bulk POB — but carry the usual trust risk of paying a stranger; use buyer protection.
- Timing: pre-order windows are short (roughly from announcement to a few days before release). POBs disappear when the window closes, so decide early.
